One Bauer Media Awards at Copper Box Arena

We recently worked alongside experiential agency Everybody Engage to deliver a glittering awards ceremony for the stars of multi-platform Bauer Media’s digital, magazine and radio brands at Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Awards action and a stellar party using a pixel theme covered everything from square signage and seat ushers bearing cubed lights, through to 8-bit aftershow arcade games on a record-breaking big screen.

Fuelled by the packed lunch waiting on their seats, Bauer teams enjoyed a ceremony hosted by comedian Rob Beckett from Absolute Radio. Kiss UK, Empire, Closer and Mojo magazine were among the big winners, picking up trophies from the likes of Denise Van Outen, Alesha Dixon, Kelly Clarkson and the Bauer Media exec team before the party space was revealed.

The awards and aftershow included turns from profile acts such as Olly Murs, Jess Glynne and Carly Rae Jepsen, with games, dancing, Rockaoke, street food themed food stations and more besides.

Everybody Engage Creative Director Steven Moffett  comments:

“We wanted to create an event that was rich and colourful. Taking inspiration from Bauer’s ‘We Think Popular’ slogan, with its rainbow coloured, block background, and the fact that pixels are the components of all digital visuals, the 8-bit theme seemed appropriate to represent the whole company coming together as One Bauer Media.”

Technical Director, Johnny Palmer from SXS, says:

“The show was all about high-impact underpinned by technical excellence. In particular, the video screen was epic. At a size of 16m x 9m it was one of the biggest that could possibly fit in the venue. We used a cluster of four 22k HD projectors, which worked well, allowing us to maintain low ambient light levels to maximise the other effects in the venue.”

Karen Yates, One Bauer Media Awards’ Project Manager, says:

‘The One Bauer Media Awards is one of the biggest and most highly anticipated events in the Bauer Media calendar and Everybody Engage exceeded our expectation again, on every aspect of the brief, making it quite simply the most successful, best event that our business has ever attended. The heartfelt and simply phenomenal feedback that we have received is testament to that.”

BH Live Head of Hospitality, Alex Robertson, comments:

“The One Bauer Media Awards set the bar particularly high, with a brief to replicate the cosmopolitan buzz and aroma of London’s street food scene. To kick the event off, we placed drinks beneath every guest seat in the arena and brought more at the wave of a flag. Of the nine ‘fast food’ options we took to the tasting table, Bauer chose five for its themed food stations in the party space, from gourmet burgers and Red Thai Curry to continental platters, tapas and burritos, with a good choice of alternatives for special dietary needs.”

Russ Barnes, Venue Manager at GLL, says:

“As operators of the Copper Box, London’s third largest arena and the most versatile venue on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Arena, we were delighted to host the One Bauer Media Awards 2015. It was a remarkable product of Bauer Media vision and Everybody Engage design and the Copper Box was the perfect platform.”
