It’s our mission to improve community health and wellbeing.

Working with local authority partners across Dorset and Hampshire, we provide leisure activities for everyone, getting more people, more active, every day. Here is a snapshot of some of the leisure and sports centres we operate. to see out full offer head over to our BH Live Active website.

Pelhams Park Leisure Centre

Operated in partnership with BCP Council, Pelhams is a community leisure centre with two pools, a sanarium, gym, studios, spin studio, FeelGood Factory and café. Hundreds of people enjoy weekly swimming lessons and attend its wide and varied fitness class programme for people of all abilities.

Outdoors, the centre has floodlit, rubber crumb training pitches and three tennis courts.

The centre plays an important role in the community with local health groups running fitness programmes and social activities for vulnerable people, individuals with health issues and people on low income.

Mountbatten Leisure Centre

Operated in partnership with Portsmouth City Council, Mountbatten is Portsmouth’s flagship leisure and event venue.

With a 50m swimming pool, teaching pool, gym, sports hall, athletics track and velodrome, 3G rubber crumb football pitches, event spaces, Clip ‘N Climb and soft play attractions, plus an onsite café, there is something for all ages, interests and abilities.

There is also a comprehensive health and wellbeing programme which provides regular sessions and activites for people living with long term health conditions.

Stokewood Leisure Centre

Operated in partnership with BCP Council, Stokewood is a well equipped community leisure centre with swimming pool, sauna, studio, spin and gym. The centre is QUEST-accredited and enjoys excellent working relationships with local schools, community groups and Bournemouth University.

Stokewood is a popular location for pool parties and swimming lessons. The centre is also home to local sports clubs for activities including triathlon, water polo and lifeguard training.

Pyramids Centre

Situated in Southsea, Pyramids has something for everyone.

Exploria, Portsmouth’s newest and largest soft play and bounce centre for all ages opened in 2021. A brand new gym with health and fitness studios opened in 2022.

Sir David English Sports Centre

Operated in partnership with Bournemouth Community Sports Trust, Sir David English is a community sports centre with gym, indoor hall, sauna, steam room and multi-functional studio used for group fitness classes and sports club activities.

Outdoors, it has four tennis courts, and three six-a-side artificial training pitches and eight netball courts popular with local leagues. The centre plays a key role in promoting grass roots sports development, working closely with local and neighbouring schools to encourage participation in physical activity.

Corfe Mullen

BH Live Active, Corfe Mullen is a bright, attractive community hub with a 23-metre pool, well equipped gym, group fitness classes, spin studio, spa facilities and treatment rooms.

There are two tennis courts, a soft play area and a Terrace café & bar with sun deck overlooking the grounds.

health and wellbeing programmes

Working with health partners, our pioneering programmes enable people living with health issues to experience the benefits of being more active. Here is a snapshot of some of the schemes we offer. For more head over to the BH Live Active website.

Make Your Move

BH Live has delivered Make Your Move; an activity programme to help more than 400 local, inactive people living with long-term health conditions, including musculoskeletal and heart conditions, cancer, diabetes and obesity.

A Sport England lottery grant supported the programme, in partnership with BH Live,  Bournemouth Borough Council, The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RBCH) and Active Dorset.

Exercise Referral

Our exercise referral scheme is aimed at people living with a medical condition or injury who are ready to get back into physical activity and are recommended into our leisure centres by their GP.

Discounted exercise activities with professional support and guidance are available for a 12-week period and have already helped thousands of people to be more active.

Community Classes

We run a series of affordable community based classes and activities to encourage more people to get active outside of a traditional leisure centre setting.

From beginners to advanced – all abilities are welcome.

CHAIN

CHAIN (Cycling Against Hip Pain) is a pioneering activity and learning programme which assesses the link between regular cycling activity and reduced hip pain or need for hip surgery.

Healthcare and activity providers including BH Live, The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group, Active Dorset, Bournemouth University and Bournemouth Borough Council support the scheme.

Cancer Survivorship

The Bournemouth After Cancer Survivorship Programme (BACSUP) is a friendly, specialist-led, eight-week personalised health, fitness and wellbeing programme for people living with breast, colorectal or haematological cancer who want to increase their potential to live life active and well.

Delivered and funded by BH Live following referrals from The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RBCHFT), Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and supporting medical professionals.

Portsmouth Interaction Service

This service provides activities and support for residents in Portsmouth who are experiencing mental health conditions. Recreational activities including sport and physical activities run across community centres and venues including Eastney Swimming Pool and Mountbatten Leisure Centre.

The aim of the service is to provide a stepping stone for people to build new skills, gain confidence whilst improving their physical and mental wellbeing. To find out more contact Kerry.morgan@bhlive.org.uk
