National fitness day inspires local school children to get more active

More than 500 local school children threw themselves into physical activity to celebrate national fitness day – the UK’s most active day of the year.

BH Live, the social enterprise which delivers health and wellbeing activities across the south, set out to to activate young people across the borough and demonstrate that getting active can be easily incorporated into the day. Their children’s activity team visited local schools in Bournemouth to run ‘fun and fast fitness’ 15 minute activity sessions.

Participating schools included St Katherine’s Primary School, Malmesbury Park Primary School, St Walburgas Catholic Primary School, Muscliff Primary School, Bethany Junior School and Pokesdown Community Primary School.

James Richardson from St Walburgas Catholic Primary School said, “My class had a fantastic morning with the coaches from BH Live! They played a number of different games and the children thought they were great. I think it really showed them that keeping fit can be fun! I will certainly be using the games we played today within my P.E. lessons and I’m sure the other teachers will do too. We’re all so appreciative that they visited our school!”

Mike Lyons, BH Live’s Director for Sport and Leisure added, “It’s smashing to see young people learning about the benefits of being more active – and more importantly having lots of fun at the same time too!”
