Thousands expected at family fun weekend

Plans are revealed for BH Live’s popular family fun weekend on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July 2017 with thousands of people expected to attend.

Last year more than 19,000 people, including local families and visitors, enjoyed a packed weekend of activities and things to see and do. Now in its third year, expectations are even higher.

The weekend kicks off at Bournemouth Pavilion on Saturday 29 July 2017 from 10am until 4pm. Hosted on the theatre’s outdoor terrace, passers-by can get their face painted and be entertained by Children’s entertainer Jamie Jigsaw. Free dance workshops will be held by Pavilion Dance South West and Terrace Tales storytelling sessions will be running. Stalls will offer things to see and buy and an inflatable pirate ship will be there for children to enjoy.

At Littledown Park on Sunday 30 July 2017 from 11am until 4pm there is a bumper day of more than 100 stalls, displays and activities for all the family to enjoy. New for this year is a Science Dome 360 show featuring space and the Dorset Troopers are bringing along Darth Vader, Storm Troopers and Chewbacca.

Falconry displays and Crazy Creatures are returning and there will be displays and activities showcasing sports clubs and talent from the area such as gymnastics, taekwondo display singing, acting and dance. There will also be demonstrations and displays from Avonbourne Gymnastics Club, Dorset Taekwondo, Baton twirlers and Jass Studios.

Children’s entertainment features Sky and Marshall from Paw Patrol, Superheroes Spectacular show with Captain America and Iron Man. The Terrace Tales crew will be running storytelling sessions and there will be arts and crafts activities, colouring, gooey science experiments, demonstrations and fossil digging.

Trampolining, tennis, go karting, zorb circuit, basketball shoot out, magic show, circus skills and stilt walking from Jules the Entertainer, Sand Art and clay workshops will also feature.

The fun fair is back too with rides and attractions including an inflatable slide, paratrooper and twist ride, runaway train-coaster, hoopla stalls, swingboats, teacup ride and bumper boats.  There is a new inflatable zone including a bouncy castle for teens and adults, disco dome, giant assault course and a bungee run.  There will be hula hoop workshops, an orienteering maze and sport activities including crazy golf and outdoor table tennis.

ALTITUDE high ropes adventure (2017 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence), the children’s playpark, paddling pool and the centre’s sport and leisure facilities are all open for business as usual.

Clockwork Jukebox will be performing live music and there is a licensed bar and catering including a hog roast, wood fired pizza, crepes, bbq, mexican street food, bratwurst, fish and chips and candy floss. Drop the Anchor Brewery will be offering tasters of their locally produced ales.

Stalls will be displaying local produce including artisan handmade crafts and gifts including homemade preserves and pickles to buy. There will also be a selection of artists and photographers displaying their work. Other stalls include candles, clothing, handmade jewellery, henna tattooing, hair wrapping, fun animal walking balloons, cupcakes and fudge.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth, Councillor and Mrs Lawrence Williams, will be attending both days to join in the fun.

“Whether it’s our popular fun days, roller skating at Bournemouth International Centre or summer shows at Bournemouth Pavilion there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Admission is free over the weekend. Charges will apply to refreshments and some activities.

Public transport, walking or cycling is encouraged and some car parking is available at both venues on a first come first served basis.

Additional car parking for the event at Littledown on Sunday will also be available at Ageas – adjacent to the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital and next to the law courts.

Set in 47 acres of parkland, Littledown has some of the finest leisure, swimming, football and gym facilities in the country.
