Sustainability award scheme launched at South’s biggest hotel and catering show

Bournemouth & Poole’s representatives for the UK’s growing Sustainable Food Cities network has chosen the South’s biggest regional trade show to launch a five-star sustainability award scheme.

The award scheme is to recognise local businesses actively supporting local food provenance and sustainability.

The first organisation in the region to be awarded four stars for its outstanding commitment to food provenance, sustainability and environmental standards is social enterprise BH Live.

“I’ve always believed in buying ingredients from local producers who follow sustainable farming and production methods. With Dorset’s larder being so plentiful, it’s an easy practice to follow,”

says BH Live’s Group Executive Chef, Stewart Parker.

“The Bournemouth and Poole Sustainable Food City partnership is attracting widespread support across the region, and we’re very proud to be part of it.”

“Our partnership works alongside established provenance programmes such as Dorset Food & Drink and New Forest Marque,”

says Sarah Watson, Manager of the Sustainable Food City Partnership for Bournemouth and Poole.

“There are lots of great businesses in our area who are leading the way and doing some fantastic work in supporting and buying from sustainable sources. There are also many that we’d like to help do a bit more. The Hotel & Catering Show this week with more than 100 local suppliers and attended by over 2,000 buyers from across the region is a great platform for us to promote our scheme and encourage more food & drink businesses from across the region to join us.”
