Stokewood lifeguard swims for Julia’s House

Next week, a local lifeguard at Stokewood Leisure Centre will be swimming 21 miles to raise money for children’s hospice charity, Julia’s House. This is the equivalent of the English Channel Swim between England and France.

Taking place in Stokewood’s pool on Wednesday 7 February 2024, lifeguard Christian Mitchell alongside local students Arief Mckenna and Justus Dirks, are doing this swim challenge in memory of seven-year-old Sophie Kline, who sadly passed away from a brain tumour in 2015.

On behalf of the fundraising swim team, Christian Mitchell shared;
“We’re really excited about this challenge and want to offer a huge thanks to BH Live for making this fundraiser possible.”

BH Live Active, Stokewood is managed by registered charity BH Live, in partnership with BCP Council.

Stacey Saner, Stokewood’s Centre Manager, said;
“Christian is a fantastic colleague and a friendly face to all of our customers. We wish him and his friends all the best with this fundraiser and hope they raise lots of money for an incredible cause.”

Laura Maidment, Public Fundraising Manager for Julia’s House, said;
“We are incredibly grateful to Christian, Arief and Justus for taking on this mighty challenge. The funds they raise will help to provide vital care and support to local seriously ill children and their families, so thank you. Wishing them all the best of luck!”

Notes for editors:

Julia’s House is a children’s hospice charity providing life changing clinical care and emotional and practical support for the most seriously ill children, offering their parents much-needed respite. Julia’s House relies on raising over 90  per cent of its income from the local community to sustain itsvital service, which is why I have chosen to throw my support behind them.
