Sending a red alert for help #WeMakeEvents

Last night [Tuesday 11 August] Bournemouth joined fellow theatres and entertainment venues across the UK to send a call for help for the events industry.

This was part of a national campaign called #WeMakeEvents. The aim of the campaign is raise awareness of the events sector, and call on the Government to support the people whose jobs continue to be impacted by the Covid crisis and months of trading restrictions. The events sector is worth £100billion and employs up to 1 million people.

Live events around the world have been devastated, from major festivals and landmark theatres, to grassroots venues and business events. Without major immediate support from Government, the entire supply chain is at risk of collapse.

#WeMakeEvents is now at Red Alert to raise awareness of the UK’s 1,000,000 highly skilled industry professionals, all of whom have had no work for the past four months with little likelihood of restarting until Spring 2021. Without additional support for the supply chain, the UK is in danger of losing its global position as a world leader in world class events. Moreover, all of our incredible creatives, technicians and those in the events supply chain could lose their livelihoods.

A special note of thanks

Our thanks must go to Brighter Productions, the CPS Group and our technical  colleagues for their continued creativity and support in lighting up our venues. Thanks also to Adwear for the #WeMakeEvents tshirts.
