A project to transform the female, male and accessible gym changing rooms at BH Live Active, Littledown in Bournemouth has completed.
Littledown is managed by registered charity and social enterprise BH Live in partnership with BCP Council.
Following customer feedback, BH Live invested more than £350K to refurbish the gym changing rooms’ facilities. This is to encourage more people to visit their local leisure centre to be regularly active for better health and wellbeing.
New lockers, cubicles, showers, vanity areas, toilets and hairdryers have been installed. The new look changing rooms have also improved décor, flooring and energy-efficient lighting.
On behalf of BH Live, Rob Cunningham, Director of Leisure and Business Development shared;
“As the region’s busiest leisure centre, hundreds of thousands of people visit Littledown every year to improve their health and wellbeing, whether that’s through sport, group exercise classes, swimming, gym sessions, and more. We have transformed these gym changing rooms into more modern, attractive and accessible spaces that everyone is welcome to enjoy.”
The work was carried out by Seascape South, BCP Council’s wholly owned construction company.
To coincide with Littledown’s changing room refurbishment, a separate project to replace four of the centre’s ageing boilers is also underway. This is a joint project co-funded by BH Live and BCP Council, it is anticipated that the new boilers will be more sustainable and reliable, providing hot water and heating to thousands of colleagues and customers.
Set in 47 acres of parkland Littledown is easily accessible by car, foot, and public transport. As the region’s largest leisure centre, it offers some of the best fitness classes, swimming, sport, and gym facilities in the local area. The centre’s sports hall and multiple outdoor pitches are popular with visitors and local clubs. Littledown is also home to BH Live’s local football league for children, Littledown Juniors.
Group exercise classes run seven days a week in the centre’s fitness studios and include group cycling, Les Mills™, yoga, and many more. The centre has a large well-equipped gym with dedicated fitness zones including cardio equipment, free weights, functional fitness spaces and more.
There is a 25-metre swimming pool with lane swimming, public swimming sessions and pool-based classes and lessons. There is also a smaller 17-metre teaching pool for little ones and lessons. A spa area is equipped with a sauna and steam rooms.
Open to members and non-members is Littledown’s Terrace Café and Lookout at Littledown Bar, each with free customer WiFi.
