New children’s activity packs a punch

BH Live, in partnership with Active Dorset and Bournemouth Amateur Boxing Club, has launched a low cost boxing activity programme for children aged 10-16 years old at Stokewood Boxing Club. This is to encourage more local young people to get more active by learning fresh skills in different sporting environments.

Aimed at youngsters who are currently inactive, the 12-week course is a non-contact mixed class for children aged 10-16 – suitable for all levels from beginners upwards. This is ideal for children who are interested in learning boxing techniques and who are looking to take part in a non-mainstream or team sport.

Sessions will teach basic punching techniques, defence and footwork using bag work, pads and circuit training. They will be supervised by the head boxing coach with assistant coaches and all equipment will be provided.

“Boxing is fast paced and its techniques are superb for overall physical fitness,” says Colette Kiernander, BH Live’s Divisional General Manager. “The social aspect and personal discipline element that comes with learning this skill are well respected – and of course it’s great fun too.”

Once the course has been completed there will be the opportunity to either continue with the classes, join the kid’s gym or the boxing club that is part of the Bournemouth Division of England Boxing. There are also future plans to incorporate some of the course features into BH Live’s 813 Club which runs at Littledown, Sir David English and Pelhams Park and launch a box fit class for adults at Stokewood.

The 12-week course runs on Thursdays from 27 April 2017-20 July (excluding half term on 1 June).

55 minute sessions start at 4pm and 5pm and the course costs £18 per person to take part.

To book onto the course, contact Stokewood Leisure Centre on 01202 055502.
