More people getting active with BH Live

More than 1,000 people have snapped up a new BH Live Active membership in Portsmouth and are getting more active thanks to a new citywide activity programme which launched last month.

On 1 February 2017, BH Live began a new partnership with Portsmouth City Council to manage seven of the city’s sport, leisure and event venues; Mountbatten Leisure Centre, Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre, Portsmouth Tennis Centre, Charter Community Sports Centre, Wimbledon Park Sports Centre, Pyramids Centre and Eastney Swimming Pool.

More than 1,000 people have already taken advantage of its introductory membership offers with 300 people benefiting from concessions such as money saving packages for young people and people on low income. Hundreds of free swimming sessions have also been enjoyed by children across the region.

“The appetite across the city to get more active and ultimately live a healthier lifestyle is strong and we have been very encouraged by the overwhelming response of local residents during this first month, says Claire Oatridge, BH Live’s Regional Head of Operations.

“What’s even more exciting is that we are seeing a very high number of people coming through the doors who, either haven’t visited for a while, or who are visiting for the very first time. And by inspiring more people to come and see what these fantastic venues are all about we’re seeing a very promising beginning towards building a more active city.”

Cllr Linda Symes, Portsmouth City Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure & Sport, said: “It’s fantastic news that so many have already taken advantage of these offers and are using the wonderful facilities we have on offer. One of the big aims for our new partnership with BH Live was to get more people in Portsmouth being active on a regular basis and they’re already showing positive results just one month in. As well as the individual benefits exercising has, having a more active population can in turn help to reduce pressures on health and community services while activities such as cycling can reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.”

To keep the momentum going, current promotions include recommending a friend for a free month’s membership, getting a complimentary 90 minutes personal training session, no joining fee and trying out all of the facilities for free with a five day guest pass.

Memberships start at £24 per month to access activities including swimming, gym sessions and hundreds of weekly exercise classes across the seven venues.
