Lifeguard training with Swim UK

We are working with Swim UK who is running lifeguard training courses at Pyramids, Portsmouth.

The week long programme for people aged 16 years or over, will provide lifesaving techniques to qualify for a job as a lifeguard.

RLSS is the awarding body and the course is designed to qualify lifeguards, and also to help them find a job.

Swim UK MD Paul Smith said,

“We work with local swimming pools who need lifeguards to work for them – once qualified we are able to bring lifeguards and employers together. Although there is a charge for the course this can sometimes be waived if the learner is unemployed. We don’t want money to be a barrier”

The course itself covers learning vital skills like Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, rescuing a casualty from the water and handling a swimmer who may have suffered spinal injuries.

The course’s full title is the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification which is the main entry qualification to the leisure industry in the UK. As well as being internationally recognised the course is a great stepping stone to becoming a swimming teacher and finding a full or part time position in the leisure sector.

Richard Neale, Divisional General Manager at Pyramids commented,

“It’s great to be working with Swim UK on this project. The lifeguard course is a great stepping stone into a career in the leisure industry, and we will be looking to recruit full time lifeguards and apprentices once they have completed this qualification.”
