Liberal Democrats return to Bournemouth

Following a record attendance in 2015, the Liberal Democrats return to Bournemouth for their autumn party conference.

This is the political party’s largest event of the year and will be taking place at Bournemouth International Centre from Saturday 16 – Tuesday 19 September 2017. The event features lively debates, policy discussions, fringe events, speeches and a range of social events.

Expected to attract 2,000 visitors to the town, the event is estimated to contribute £2.2 million to the local economy through business tourism.

Pat Coyne, BH Live’s Director of Venues and Events said, “We are delighted to welcome the Liberal Democrats back to Bournemouth for their autumn conference. Events such as this create a real buzz in the town and make a significant contribution to our local economy, both in terms of business tourism and destination profile. On behalf of Bournemouth International Centre and the town, we offer a very warm welcome to all.”

Baroness Brinton, President of the UK Liberal Democrats, will open the conference alongside newly elected leader, Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable MP. Other guest speakers include Layla Moran MP, Jo Swinson MP, Kirsty Williams AM and Willie Rennie MSP.

“Bournemouth is a fantastic destination that always proves popular with our party members. We’re looking forward to returning for our federal conference this year,” said Head of Conferences for the Liberal Democrats, Lydia Dumont.

The conference will see a number of interesting debates, including; ‘Employment in the 21st Century’ and ‘The Impact of Brexit on Public Services’. Sunday’s agenda will allow delegates to take part in a Q&A session with the Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable MP, where members can submit questions on any topic to the new leader in a Town Hall-style event.

The Liberal Democrats will be supporting Bournemouth Foodbank during their visit to the town. Attendees can donate items from the foodbank shopping list, including long life fruit juice, powdered milk and tinned vegetables.
