Lauren Steadman opens new clinic at Mountbatten

Triple World champion and six-time European champion Lauren Steadman is officially launching a new assessment, treatment and rehabilitation premises for Portsmouth’s Up and Running Sports Injury Treatment Clinic at Mountbatten Leisure Centre.

The clinic, which has been operating in the City for more than 25 years, is headed up by former Portsmouth FC Assistant Manager and Physiotherapist, Keith Waldon. He is supported by a team of therapists which helps clients at all levels of fitness who sustain injuries and require rehab from activities such as athletics, swimming, weight training, football, rugby and gymnastics.

Lauren has been supportive of the clinics’ work for many years and has a long-standing relationship with Keith and the team. She is delighted to be launching the new premises which will reach even more people across the City and get them back into physical activity. She says,

“I have been seeing the Up and Running Team since 2011. Their expertise has kept me injury-free apart from a fall from my bike in the World Championships in Rotterdam. I have been to three Olympic Games, several World Championships and many other competitions during this time. Keith even came out to Rio with me.

“Their ethos of prevention of injury rather than wait until injury strikes has been the key to this remarkable achievement. If I do get a niggle, then it is reported and fixed before it becomes a major problem.

“The team at Up and Running are all trained in preventing and treating sports injuries and all have experience of dealing with elite sportsmen and women. I cannot recommend Up and Running highly enough.”

The provision of these services at Mountbatten Leisure Centre, is supported by BH Live and Portsmouth City Council. This is because more people in the local community will be able to access injury prevention consultation and rehabilitation at their local leisure centre – and get back into physical activity following injury or the impact of longer-term physical conditions.

Keith Waldon, who is delighted with the move adds,

“Mountbatten is the one of the busiest sport and leisure centres in the region attracting people of all ages and abilities. Working with BH Live and the Council, our new clinic will enable us to get more local people moving again. And because we are the Physiotherapy and Sports Therapy services for clubs such as Portsmouth Northsea Swimming Club, Portsmouth Athletics Club and Portsmouth School of Gymnastics, we’ll be even closer to the athletes who train at Mountbatten and its neighbouring gymnastics and tennis centres.”

Councillor Steve Pitt, Cabinet Member for Culture and City Development & Deputy Leader, who will be attending the launch, adds,

“It’s great to have this clinic available at the Mountbatten Leisure Centre to help people get back to fitness after sport injury.  With so many sports clubs and local people using the centre it’s an ideal location.”
