Hundreds of funded summer holiday camp places launch at local leisure centre

BH Live, a registered charity and social enterprise, is celebrating the launch of HAF (Holiday Activities and Food Programme Funding) funded holiday camps at Sir David English Sports Centre, Bournemouth.

Funded through BCP Council’s HAF Fund, the camps are designed to inspire more young people to get active during the school holidays.

Offering healthy meals and engaging activities for children aged 5–11, the funded spaces are offered to children in receipt of benefits-related free school meals. Thanks to continued funding and BH Live’s efforts to expand its activity programmes, more than 300 funded spaces have been created for young people this summer.

Delivered by BH Live Active instructors, the action-packed holiday camps include sports, crafts and more. Morning camps (8:30-12:30), afternoon camps (12:00-16:30) and full day camps (8:30-16:30) are available. More information about the camps, including how to book, is online.

Sir David English Sports Centre is owned by Bournemouth School Charitable Trust and operated in partnership with registered charity and social enterprise BH Live.

On behalf of BH Live, Bobby Cole, Group Swim & Junior Activities Manager, shared;

“We’re incredibly proud to have launched our HAF-funded holiday camps at Sir David English Sports Centre, reaching more families than ever before. These sessions not only provide a safe and fun environment for children to stay active, but also ensure they have access to healthy food during the school holidays. It’s a vital initiative, and one we’re committed to growing year on year.”

Cllr Herrett, Portfolio Holder for Destination, Leisure and Commercial Operations, said:

“I’m pleased to see our Holiday Activities and Food Funding (HAF) put to good use through the BH Live services.

“The HAF funding continues to be a vital source of support for families across our community, particularly for children in receipt of benefits-related free school meals. Thanks to this funding and the dedication of partners like BH Live, we’ve been able to create over 300 funded spaces for young children this summer.

“It’s a great example of how targeted investment can make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Sir David English Sports Centre is a popular community sports venue with a multi-purpose sports hall, gym, and a multi-functional studio for daily group exercise classes. The centre works closely with local sports clubs and neighbouring schools to accommodate fixtures and training on its 3G rubber crumb pitches, netball courts and tennis courts to encourage more young people to get active.

AirJumpX, a supersized inflatable obstacle course, offers a packed experience with interactive challenges and thrills such as climbs, parkour-style sections, a giant slide, and much more.

A Terrace Café is open to all, serving refreshments and a welcoming space for families, residents, sports clubs, young people, and BH Live Active members to relax. It has also seen a popular reception from partygoers and visitors to AirJumpX.
