Get ready for National Fitness Day

Local residents across Bournemouth, Poole and Portsmouth are invited to try a new activity for free as part of an annual campaign to get the nation moving.

This year National Fitness Day takes place on Wednesday 23 September 2020 – and is part of the Great British Week of Sport (Saturday 19 – Sunday 27 September). The aim of the campaign is to bring the nation together to celebrate the power that sport and activity has on physical, mental and social wellbeing.

Throughout the day free-to-attend gym sessions and exercise classes including Zumba, Grit, BodyCombat, Piyo will be running. Participating leisure centres include Littledown, Pelhams, Stokewood and Corfe Mullen in Dorset. In Portsmouth sessions will be available at Mountbatten and Pyramids. Furthermore BH Live is also planning to live stream selected workouts for those who wish to take part at home.

“National Fitness Day is a celebration of all the fantastic activities out there for all. We are really pleased to be able to take part this year,”

says Rob Cunningham, BH Live’s Head of Leisure. He adds,

“It’s never too late to start feeling the benefits of being more active – so whether you are totally new to exercise, or have enjoyed being more active in recent months, and are ready to take the next step, we hope you’ll find something that will make you smile and feel great – whether it’s in one of our centres or online.”

Due to limited places and UK Active COVID-19 response approved measures across all BH Live operated leisure centres, all attendees (members and non-members) must book onto activities ahead of visiting. Non-members can book up to five days in advance (from Friday 18 September) via bhliveactive.org.uk or the BH Live Active mobile app.

Spaces will be limited to allow for social distancing – see website and follow @BHLiveActive for more detail.

National Fitness Day is part of the Great British Week of Sport. More activities, information and fitness challenges such, as Couch to 5K and Active 10, are on gbwos.com. Activities will also be streamed on National Fitness Day’s YouTube channel.
