Free Christmas Cracker – 20th anniversary performance at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre

On Monday 19 December 2022 at 2pm, Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre will open its doors to all for its very special 20th anniversary performance of its free-to-attend annual Christmas Cracker concert.

Celebrating the festive season and showcasing the theatre’s beautiful Compton Organ, everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy some fantastic free entertainment and singalong carols.

This ‘Christmas Cracker’ of an event, first staged in 2002, will feature Michael Wooldridge at the theatre’s Compton Organ, local musician Ian Carter at the Steinway Grand Piano and members of the Big Little Theatre School Choir.

Bournemouth Pavilion is operated by BH Live in partnership with BCP Council. BH Live is a registered charity and social enterprise.

The free-to-attend lunchtime event is not ticketed but forms part of BH Live’s community cultural engagement programme.

On behalf of BH Live, he said;

“The Christmas Cracker has always been one of my favourite events. As well as coming together to celebrate the festive season, it’s a really lovely opportunity for everyone to see and hear this fantastic organ which has been part of Bournemouth Pavilion’s history and heritage since it was first installed in 1929.”

The Compton Organ has been at the heart of the theatre for nearly 95 years. Regular concerts take place throughout the year.

Donations (optional) will be accepted and are encouraged on the day – raising money for the Pavilion’s Compton Organ Fund to enable continued essential maintenance of the organ to preserve the lifespan of this magnificent historical instrument.

Adds Christian;

“We are always grateful to all of our supporters including local Dorset organ builder Tim Trenchard for his continued hard work and expertise looking after the Compton Organ which he has done for nearly 30 years. We could not put this event on without the ongoing support from our customers and of course this year, the Big Little Theatre School who will be sharing their vocal talents.”

Councillor Jane Kelly, BCP Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Communities adds;

I’m really pleased to hear that the Christmas Cracker event will be staged again this year on its 20th anniversary!  The Pavilion Theatre is loved by so many of our residents and visitors and this showcase of the Compton Organ alongside Carol singing is absolutely in the hearts of many.

“Also fabulous to see that young people are represented by the Big Little Theatre School Choir, it will be a wonderful event, I know!”

Join us for this special event – a great way to start your festive celebrations, Monday 19 December 2022 at 2pm.
