Fairfield Halls in Croydon is delighted to welcome Chineke! Junior Orchestra for a night of classical music and celebration.
Chineke! and the Chineke! Junior Orchestra were founded in 2015 to create exciting opportunities for emerging and established musicians of Black and ethnically diverse heritage to engage with classical music.
Made up of musicians aged 11-22, the Chineke! Junior Orchestra is set to deliver a fantastic night of music scored by Adolphus Hailstork, Avril Coleridge-Taylor, and Mussorgsky following an intensive week of rehearsals and training
Taking place on Saturday 23 August 2025, tickets cost just £8.75 each plus a £3 transaction fee per order. Tickets are free for under-16s when accompanying a full-paying adult.
The summer concert will be led by one of Chineke!’s Assistant Conductors, Yudania Gómez Heredia. A composer, organist, and conductor of various ensembles, Yudania is also part of Chineke! Orchestra’s Assistant Conductor Scheme, a programme that gives the most promising Black and ethnically diverse conductors an outstanding chance to develop their technique, gain first-hand experience, and take their career to the next level.
On behalf of the Chineke! Foundation, Linton Stephens, Interim Deputy Artistic Director, shared;
“We’re delighted to be back at Fairfield Halls for the third year running to celebrate 10 years of the Chineke! Junior Orchestra. The concert will come at the end of an exciting and inspiring week of music-making and we look forward to seeing these young musicians take to the stage in Croydon. We set out with a commitment to nurturing the next generation of exceptional talent 10 years ago, and our partnership with Fairfield Halls plays a huge part in us doing that.”
Classical music and events form a regular part of Fairfield Halls’ event programme. As well as being home to resident companies Talawa and London Mozart Players, the venue also hosts several private orchestral rehearsals and recordings from prominent companies throughout the year.
