CAMRA Members’ Weekend comes to East Dorset

Hosted by East Dorset CAMRA, the CAMRA Members’ Weekend, National AGM and Conference is where members gather to discuss the organisation’s future policy and direction, meet brewers and taste their produce, attend workshops and visit local breweries and pubs.

Each year, the event is held in a different part of the country to attract as many members as possible and give support to breweries all over Britain.

In 2017, it’s the turn of East Dorset to promote its contribution to the CAMRA effort.

The event on 7-9 April 2017 at Bournemouth International Centre will bring more than 1,500 CAMRA members to the region looking to spend and socialise at local bars, brewers and cider makers, and discuss opportunities for widening the campaign in the light of new trends in consumer behaviour and brewing technology.

The main event of plenary sessions, meet the brewer, workshops and breakout sessions will take place in the Solent Hall. There’ll also be a welcome event at a local pub, a parallel young members event, and organised trips and informal pub crawls among East Dorset’s best micro brewers and cider houses. The CAMRA shop will be open throughout the weekend alongside a members-only real ale bar with pub grub in the Purbeck Hall.

“We’re really looking forward to hosting this event. CAMRA is a superb advocate of honest, home-grown produce and this will give members from across the UK the chance to experience the many micro brewers and cider makers growing up in Dorset,” says BH Live Director of Venues, Pat Coyne.

“Bournemouth International Centre is an ideal venue in a wonderful location, giving us not only a conference hall large enough for attendees, with plenty of flexible breakout rooms for workshops and meetings, but also another hall suitable for a members’ bar,” says Nigel Jones, Chair of Local AGM Organising Committee.

“We’ve a fantastic programme of workshops and plenary sessions lined up to revitalise the campaign with fresh ideas, with plenty of opportunities to meet local brewers and sample their fine ales and ciders. This is a great opportunity for members to network and socialise in a good cause.”

Established in 1971, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has grown into an independent, voluntary organisation of over 185,000 members campaigning for real ale, community pubs and consumer rights.

Key issues include protecting pub closures, keeping the lid on the price of a pint and ensuring fair competition in the beer and pubs market. CAMRA supports well-run pubs as centres of community life that play a critical social role in UK culture.

Registration for the event is now open and you can find out more at camraagm.org.uk.
