Bumper August weekend of free family fun in Bournemouth

Bournemouth Pavilion and Littledown Centre are hosting two bumper family fun days over the summer to give local families and visitors lots of free activities to thrill and entertain.

The Bournemouth Pavilion’s Big Bournemouth Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday 1 August from 10am til 4pm on its outdoor terrace overlooking Bournemouth’s Lower Gardens.

Passers-by can stop for a face painting session, watch a traditional seaside Punch and Judy show or dance either along to music played by a DJ or at Pavilion Dance South West’s childrens’ dance workshops on the terrace at 12noon and 2pm. Stalls will be offering exciting things see and buy and games to play including a coconut shy.

Children’s entertainer Jamie Jigsaw will be delighting the crowds all day with his clown and balloon modelling act. Youth theatre workshops for budding performers and rising stars will also be running and aspiring Jack Sparrows can climb aboard our inflatable pirate ship or have a go at our penalty shoot game; while the grown-ups sit back and relax with coffee and cake from the Terrace Bistro.

The following day sees the launch of a brand new event at Littledown Centre and Park on Sunday 2 August from 11am til 4pm. Thousands of visitors are expected to take part in indoor and outdoor activities and shop at various stalls offering something for everyone from arts, crafts, cupcakes, sweets, alternative therapies and cosmetics. Kids can get creative and come in fancy dress with the chance to win prizes including signed footballs from club rivals Cherries and Saints.

There’ll be live music to get the atmosphere going, a fab fun fair, children’s entertainers, go karts, an inflatable pirate ship, dizzifying zorb circuits with football, arts and crafts activities and a photobooth to help remember the day.

Car lovers will be delighted to see the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang replica car in action while anyone with a head for heights can take a ride on the big wheel and get a great view over the park.

Budding Bear Grylls can pick up some useful bush craft skills and footy fans can take part in our tournament and play the football penalty shootout.

Look out for the crazy creatures on your way to the giant inflatable slide and bungee trampolines. Marvel at balloon modelling, a magic show and see Jules the entertainer as he walks around the park on his stilts and shows the children how to master a few circus skills.

Minky Moo’s princesses will be performing songs from Frozen and our very own local radio station’s Heart FM Angels will be doing the face painting. Dorset Fire Brigade and LV=Streetwise will both be there with a fire engine and giving tips and advice on fire and road safety.

ALTITUDE High Ropes Adventure at Littledown Park will be running taster sessions on the low and high ropes courses, climbing wall and power fan descender. Train enthusiasts can also hop on the model railway for a quick tour around the park.

Lots to do indoors too! Gymnastics, taekwondo, and dance displays will be showcasing the centre’s many sporting and activity clubs and, of course, the popular wet and wacky inflatable fun sessions running in the swimming pool. Peckish visitors can stop off at the Terrace Café and Bar inside the centre, open all day. Catering stalls will be selling ice creams, drinks and snacks in the park.

Pat Coyne, BH Live Director of Venues says,

“Our family fun days are going to be two great days out for all the family with kids of all ages. There is going to be so much to do and see, and, alongside our great show programme at the Bournemouth Pavilion, we can’t wait for the summer to start!”

Admission is free for both days. Charges apply to refreshments and some activities.
