Bournemouth’s Festival of Hip Hop Culture is Back!

Once again Bournemouth will prove to be a hip hop hotbed with its very own hip hop extravaganza B-Town Throwdown entering its fourth year.

The four day event will feature the famous Vile Style battles, and there will be opportunities to take workshops and masterclasses with some of the top Hip Hop dancers from the UK and abroad. The grand finale of B-Town Throwdown will be Breakin’ Convention, returning by popular demand to the Pavilion Theatre on 1st June.

The Vile Style Breakin’ and Popping battles open the four-day event, with Breakin’ on Sunday 29 May, 12noon – 7pm, and Popping on Monday 30 May, 12 noon – 5.30pm at Pavilion Dance. To register to compete in the battles visit www.facebook.com/AllElementsDorset.

On Tuesday 31 May workshops begin, with beginners Breakin’ workshop from Break Ya Mind, Afro House with Antoinette Gomis and Advanced Breakin’ with the Ruggeds. Then, on Wednesday 1 June, The Ruggeds will lead a general level Breakin’ workshop.

Antoinette Gomis’ Afro House and the Ruggeds’ Breakin’ workshops are free to Breakin’ Convention ticketholders. The Break Ya Mind Beginners Breakin’ workshop is £5, and The Ruggeds Advanced Breakin’ workshop is £7. The workshops take place at Pavilion Dance and last 90 minutes. There is limited space so please book in advance, see listing information for how to book.

B-Town Throwdown culminates in Breakin’ Convention on Wednesday 1 June at 7.30pm. Produced by Sadler’s Wells, this international festival of hip hop dance theatre is set to raise the roof of the Pavilion theatre with its sparkling mix of international stars and home-grown talent. Pre-show activities are from 5.30pm and include DJs, graffiti, beatboxing, freeway poets, workshops and much more.
