A host of talented organists and pianists are set to entertain audiences at Bournemouth Pavilion.

Installed in 1929 for the opening of Bournemouth Pavilion, the venue’s prestigious Compton Organ has been at the heart of the theatre for nearly 100 years.

Starting Thursday 23 March 2023, until the end of August, a number of talented organists will take to the stage at 1pm to entertain guests with an hour of popular light organ music.

Regarded, back in the day, by the residents of Bournemouth as the most exciting concept in indoor entertainment, the Compton Organ continues to bring much pleasure and entertainment to the many who come to the shows.

Bournemouth Pavilion is managed by registered charity BH Live in partnership with BCP Council.

On behalf of BH Live, Steve Turner, Associate Director of Venues said:

“The Compton Organ shows first took place in 1985 and have continued to be hugely popular amongst guests. We hope everyone enjoys the music programme and fantastic array of hugely talented organists who can join us this year.”

Organists appearing on stage include master musician Michael Wooldridge, composer and performer Andy Quin and entertainer and musician Elizabeth Harrison.

‘Light in style’, music will be from the 1950s to the present day, including popular tunes from past eras, music from the musicals and the occasional light classical march.

Councillor Beverley Dunlop, BCP Council’s Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Vibrant Places added:

“It’s wonderful that the theatre and BH Live are still able to offer these unique concerts to visitors, connecting with its wonderfully rich musical history.”

Money raised from the shows will contribute to the ongoing financial support and maintenance of the theatre’s Compton Organ.

This is a walk-in concert, tickets are £5 on the door, cash only with no advance bookings available.
