A registered charity and leading operator of leisure centres and event venues is celebrating the achievement of a significant milestone towards becoming even more sustainable.
As of October 2024, all leisure centres managed by BH Live across Bournemouth and East Dorset have achieved Green Mark Level 2 accreditation as part of the organisation’s commitment to reducing energy waste and improving sustainability.
This include BH Live Active, Corfe Mullen; BH Live Active, Queen’s Park; Sir David English Sports Centre, Littledown, Pelhams, and Stokewood.
Green Mark has become a cornerstone of business operations across the UK as they move towards being environmentally sustainable for the long term. Green Mark reviews organisations’ sustainability performances, identifying steps on how businesses can save energy, reduce waste, and become more environmentally responsible in their everyday processes.
Across the last 12 months, BH Live has invested more than £100k into energy efficiency to reduce its carbon footprint. In addition, BH Live continues to meet its energy requirements by pursuing 100% renewable electricity providers and has just joined the Consultus energy purchasing platform to achieve this aspiration. The social enterprise has also implemented an improved recycling system across its centres to reduce waste. Employee training is in place to educate colleagues on how to be more sustainable.
Recently, BH Live has installed charging points for electric vehicles at Sir David English Sports Centre to meet demand for greener travel. Improved plant equipment at BH Live Active Pelhams is improving efficiency. While there are many solar installations already in place, BH Live hopes to work with its council partners to install even more, promoting greener energy.
BH Live is a registered charity and social enterprise. BH Live manages and operates three centres in Bournemouth in partnership with BCP Council; Pelhams, Littledown, and Stokewood.
Sir David English Sports Centre is operated and managed in partnership with Bournemouth School Charitable Trust. BH Live Active, Queen’s Park and BH Live Active, Corfe Mullen are operated by BH Live.
Roy Clarke, BH Live’s Director of Technical Operations shared:
“I am delighted at the progress we are making towards being a more sustainable organisation. Our teams at BH Live Active centres in Bournemouth and East Dorset have worked incredibly hard to become Green Mark Level 2 accredited.
“Our partnership with Green Mark continues to form our Environmental Management Strategy. Through continued investment and by working with companies such as Green Mark, we hope to ensure that our centres are running as sustainably and efficiently as possible.”
Jamie Craddock, Green Mark Customer Account Manager shared:
“BH Live has shown tremendous progress in reducing its environmental impact and has displayed a robust understanding of sustainability at BH Live Active leisure centres across the BCP region. The work the teams have implemented is truly commendable, building an excellent foundation for their next step in their journey to reduce their carbon footprint.”
