Arts and culture vibe growing in Bournemouth

BH Live, the social enterprise that manages venues and provides more than 500 cultural events a year across the South of England, is expanding its theatre education programme to encourage even more people to get involved in performing arts and culture.

Recently awarded the Arts Awards Centre status, accredited by Trinity College London, the trust is giving youngsters the opportunity to develop their learning of performing arts through an official body, recognised by higher education providers.

Following the successful roll-out of a summer holiday youth theatre programme at Bournemouth Pavilion in 2013, a new Youth Theatre school will open in September 2015. Saturday workshops for 6-16 year olds will help students to develop and hone their skills in acting, street arts, improvisation, mask work, comedy, movement, devised theatre and vocal technique.

BH Live is also sharing some of its behind-the-scenes secrets by providing schools in Bournemouth with interactive workshops and backstage tours of the town’s Pavilion Art Deco theatre and large concert arena spaces.

Next month, BH Live will also be talking to local residents about launching a community theatre project. Working alongside Bournemouth Borough Council’s West Howe Community Partnership and Community Regeneration team, the scheme is designed to inspire local residents to get involved in arts and culture by writing, casting, set designing, directing and even performing in their own events.

“We are so fortunate to be part of an energetic and creative industry that reaches many people on so many levels,”

says Pat Coyne, BH Live Director of Venues.

“Brimming with feel good factor, our arts and culture education programme is growing all the time. We are creating many exciting opportunities for local people of any age to join in and share the magic with us.”

To find out more about getting involved in the BH Live’s next community theatre project with Bournemouth Pavilion, a free public open evening is being held at West Howe Library, Bournemouth on Wednesday 15 July from 6pm-10pm.
