To celebrate National Fitness Day (Wednesday 16 September 2026), the UK’s biggest celebration of health and fitness, residents in Bournemouth, Portsmouth, and Southampton can get FREE access to gym and swim sessions at selected BH Live Active leisure centres.
National Fitness Day is the UK’s largest celebration of health and physical activity, coordinated by ukactive. This year’s theme, Powered By You, highlights that everyone has a role to play in building a more active nation, from individuals and communities to schools, businesses and healthcare organisations.
Whether trying the gym for the first time, returning to exercise after a break, or looking for a new way to stay active, BH Live is marking National Fitness Day by inviting residents across Bournemouth, Southampton, and Portsmouth to explore the facilities available at their local BH Live Active leisure centre.
Visitors can try a free gym or swim session by quoting ‘National Fitness Day’ at centre reception desks on the day. Activities are subject to availability. Participating BH Live Active leisure centres* include:
Bournemouth

BH Live is a registered charity and social enterprise, whose charitable aims include encouraging more individuals to participate in regular sport and physical activity.
As well as participating in national awareness campaigns such as National Fitness Day, BH Live also provides community open days, taster sessions and concessions to encourage participation in sport and leisure.
In Bournemouth and Southampton, young people aged under 5 can enjoy free swimming when accompanied by a fully paying adult at BH Live Active centres. In Portsmouth, under 12s can enjoy free swimming when accompanied by a fully paying adult at BH Live Active centres.

About BH Live Active, Littledown
Littledown is operated by the registered charity BH Live in partnership with BCP Council.
Set in 47 acres of parkland, Littledown has some of the finest leisure, swimming, football and gym facilities in the country.

About BH Live Active, Stokewood
Stokewood opened as a public baths in 1930. It is now operated by the registered charity BH Live in partnership with BCP Council.
Set in the heart of the Winton/Charminster area of Bournemouth, Stokewood is a thriving community leisure centre with circa 300,000 attendances a year.

Sir David English (Sports Centre) is operated by the registered charity BH Live in partnership with Bournemouth School Charitable Trust.

Situated close to Queen’s Park Golf Course near Charminster, BH Live Active, Queen’s Park is open to all seven days a week.

There are multiple well-equipped gym rooms over two floors with a full range of cardiovascular, resistance machines, free weights, functional fitness equipment, and workout zones.
Dedicated wellbeing areas and fitness studios include a TechnogymTM Group Cycle experience, a studio for mindfulness and relaxation, and an EGYM circuit complete with a Fitness Hub and smart machines for expert support, easy-to-follow workouts, and fitness assessments.
There is a weekly timetable of classes and activities including Les Mills TM BODYPUMP and BODYCOMBAT, including other classes such as group cycle, yoga and Pilates.

About Mountbatten Leisure Centre

There is a 50 metre swimming pool (divided into two) with regular public swimming sessions, lane swimming, pool-based classes and lessons. Mountbatten is also home to AquaDash – a large pool inflatable course – great fun for young people, team building away days, and parties. Spa facilities include a sauna, spa bath and steam room.
Mountbatten offers a broad health and wellbeing programme which focuses on helping people with long-term conditions to stay active and build their confidence in one one-on-one or group settings.
Mountbatten is also home to a Clip ‘N Climb leisure attraction and MountAirXL, a giant inflatable complete with slides, jumps, and adventure zones.

The centre is situated in Southsea overlooking the beach and Solent. There is something to suit every activity preference and level of fitness. Pyramids has four activity studios too; the Glasshouse and Solent each with sea views. A South Terrace outdoor café and container bar is open throughout the spring and summer season, offering snack, light bites and refreshments overlooking the Solent.

About Exploria
Exploria at Pyramids in Southsea opened in 2021. It is Portsmouth’s largest indoor soft play and bounce attraction. With a range of exciting experiences, Exploria stimulates play for children aged 6 months and upwards. A tantalising sense of wonder and extreme fun across three connected worlds gives children plenty of action to amaze and delight. Everything, from floor to ceiling, evokes a sense of mystery with lots of jumps, leaps and thrills. All safely rightsized to inspire juniors, toddlers and babies alike.
The bounce zone is great for burning off tons of energy. The diving tower with air bag is perfect for the bravest of explorers. About Portsmouth Tennis Centre

Visitors can enjoy a comprehensive coaching programme designed to support progression at every level, including first‑time tots picking up a racket, juniors developing their skills, and adults returning to or advancing within the sport. Supported by HAF (Holiday Activities and Food Programme) funding, Portsmouth Tennis Centre provides free sports camp spaces including hot meals and activities during school holidays for children from low socio-economic backgrounds.

With a state-of-the-art gym complete with cardio and strength areas, group exercise classes are delivered in dedicated studios.
A Terrace Café with a seating area is also available on-site.
