Residents across Southampton are invited to enjoy a new and improved fitness experience following a major investment in the gyms at BH Live Active, The Quays; Bitterne Leisure Centre, and Chamberlayne Leisure Centre.
Delivered through a partnership between Southampton City Council and registered charity and social enterprise BH Live, the upgraded gyms have officially reopened, offering state-of-the-art equipment, revamped workout spaces, and modern training environments designed to help more people get active and feel their best.
The improvements form part of BH Live and Southampton City Council’s shared commitment to support healthier communities by making high-quality fitness facilities more accessible, welcoming, and inspiring for people of all ages and abilities.
Working alongside leading commercial fitness provider Pulse Fitness, BH Live has completely transformed each gym, introducing brand-new equipment, redesigned training zones, refreshed décor, and enhanced fitness spaces throughout.
Members and customers can now enjoy a premium workout experience featuring cutting-edge cardio equipment with integrated digital screens, allowing users to watch TV, access streaming apps, and wirelessly charge compatible devices while they exercise*.
The investment has also delivered expanded free weights and stretching areas with new flooring, dedicated functional fitness zones complete with rowing machines and ski ergs, and a full redecoration scheme featuring feature lighting and modern finishes.
BH Live operates BH Live Active health and wellbeing facilities across the city in partnership with Southampton City Council.

BH Live Active, The Quays – Situated near Southampton Harbour, The Quays is one of only four High Performance Centres for diving in the UK.
There is a 10m diving board with an 18m diving pool, with public swim sessions and swimming lessons taking place in a separate 25m main pool. Waterslides offer splashing fun for families and individuals, feeding into a separate lagoon pool complete with interactive water features.
With a state-of-the-art gym complete with cardio and strength areas, group exercise classes are delivered in dedicated studios.
A Terrace Café with a seating area is also available on-site.
ANPR is in operation at BH Live Active, The Quays. Free customer parking is available for up to three hours, seven days a week. BH Live Active, Bitterne – Just a short drive from Southampton City Centre, Bitterne Leisure Centre is a multi-complex facility, offering activities for visitors of all ages and abilities to help improve health and wellbeing.
Swimming lessons and swim sessions take place regularly across a 25m main pool (complete with a waterslide) and a 10m learner pool.
With a state-of-the-art gym complete with cardio and strength areas, group exercise classes are delivered in dedicated studios.
A sports hall is also available for block bookings and general hire.

BH Live Active, Chamberlayne – Located in Weston, Chamberlayne Leisure Centre is a popular community leisure centre, offering a range of fitness classes and sports such as football, trampolining, badminton, table tennis, and more across its sports fields and sports hall.

Outdoor Sports Centre – Southampton’s Outdoor Sports Centre offers a diverse range of sports and activities for visitors across the city to enjoy.
A multi-million-pound project to redevelop the Outdoor Sports Centre began in June 2025. It is expected to complete in 2027.
