BH Live is proud to have recently taken part in Community Leisure UK’s #SeriouslySocial campaign, a national initiative that celebrates the positive social impact delivered by charitable trusts and social enterprises across the UK.
#SeriouslySocial shone a spotlight on how organisations like BH Live are making a meaningful difference by putting people above profit and reinvesting in the communities they serve.
As a leading leisure and event venue operator, BH Live is a registered charity and social enterprise, took the opportunity to reflect on meaningful difference it makes; putting people above profit and reinvesting in the communities they serve.
BH Live operates cultural venues and BH Live Active leisure centres across Dorset, Hampshire, and Croydon. At the heart of BH Live’s work is a clear charitable purpose to deliver lasting social value through three core objectives:
- More participation – by providing accessible leisure facilities that encourage active communities, improve physical health, and support mental wellbeing
- Higher audiences – by offering a diverse programme of cultural, entertainment, and artistic events that appeal to a wide and inclusive audience
- Greater economic and social benefit – by hosting major conferences, exhibitions, and events that contribute to local, regional, and national economies
A key principle behind #SeriouslySocial is a commitment to putting people first. For BH Live, this is central to the organisation. As a charity, every penny of surplus generated is reinvested back into facilities, services, and community programmes, ensuring long-term, sustainable community benefit.
Throughout the #SeriouslySocial campaign week, BH Live showcased the many ways it is helping to create healthier, happier, and more connected communities. From inclusive fitness programmes and accessible leisure services to large-scale cultural and community events, BH Live’s work is designed to bring people together, improve wellbeing, and make a positive difference to everyday lives.
The campaign also provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of partnership working, collaborating with local authorities, charities, community groups, and organisations to extend reach and maximise impact.
Participation in #SeriouslySocial reinforces BH Live’s ongoing commitment to delivering social value through leisure, culture, and community engagement, not just during campaign week, but all year round.
On behalf of BH Live, Jon Workman, CEO, shared;
“As a social enterprise, we’re proud to put people above profit, reinvesting every penny of surplus we generate back into our facilities, programmes, and communities. From improving health and wellbeing to creating opportunities for people to connect through leisure and culture, our focus is always on making a positive, lasting difference to the communities we serve. It’s been fantastic to take part in this initiative to highlight how we’re making a positive difference to hundreds of thousands of lives.”

About BH Live
BH Live is a leading operator of leisure and event venues – a registered charity and social enterprise.
Our vision is to create sustainable and inspiring opportunities, deliver great experiences for our communities, and improve health and well-being.
Our organisational and charitable purpose are to generate:
- More participation – through the provision of leisure facilities to encourage active communities, improved health, and well-being
- Higher audiences – through the provision of a diverse range of cultural and artistic events that appeal to a wide audience
- Greater economic and social benefit – through hosting major conferences, exhibitions, and events for the benefit of the local, regional, and international economies and people
Working with support from our partners, we pursue our social objectives in a financially sustainable way.
We manage a diverse portfolio of venues and facilities, with millions of visits per year. Our geographical reach spans across 15 venues and attractions across the Bournemouth (BCP), Portsmouth, and Southampton conurbations, together with Fairfield Halls in Croydon.
We operate in various market sectors, including sport and leisure, entertainment, conferences and exhibitions, hospitality, and catering services. Whilst each has its market focus, they have much in common and much to share.
Charitable activities are delivered by BH Live. Non-charitable activities (primarily relating to Conferences and Exhibitions) are delivered by BH Live Enterprises Limited; a wholly owned trading subsidiary of the parent organisation, established to manage the non-charitable activities. Any surplus made by the trading subsidiary is gift-aided in full to the charity.
We are at the heart of the UK’s growing social economy. Together with our partners, we are helping to change lives and make a positive impact in the communities we serve.
