Bournemouth International Centre celebrates successful TUC Disabled Workers’ Conference 2026

Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) recently welcomed trade union delegates from across the UK for the TUC (Trades Union Congress) Disabled Workers’ Conference.

Bringing together influential voices from across the trade union movement, the conference not only delivered meaningful debate and policy outcomes but also reinforced Bournemouth’s position as a business hub.

The two-day event welcomed delegates from across the UK, including representatives from the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), educators, and public sector workers, all united in addressing the challenges facing disabled employees. A series of motions, focused on workplace accessibility, equality, and career progression, were passed unanimously, reflecting both the strength of collective action and the importance of providing a platform for these conversations.

The conference marked a milestone moment for long-serving delegate Ann Galpin, who attended her final conference after 16 years on the TUC Disabled Workers’ Committee. Her contribution was formally recognised during the event, one of many impactful moments facilitated by the BIC’s ability to accommodate large-scale, high-profile gatherings.

Throughout the conference, delegates addressed a wide range of issues, from improving workplace protections and access to employment, to tackling systemic barriers in industries such as journalism and the arts. NUJ motions on breaking down career obstacles for young disabled people and ending unpaid work practices in creative sectors received unanimous backing.

The venue played a central role in enabling the success of the conference, offering a professional and accessible setting for discussions that will shape workplace practices nationwide. By hosting high-profile events such as the TUC Disabled Workers’ Conference, the BIC continues to support organisations in driving forward policy change while attracting significant business tourism to the region.

Bournemouth International Centre is operated by registered charity and social enterprise BH Live in partnership with BCP Council.

On behalf of BH Live, Sarah Stainer, Conference and Exhibitions Manager, shared;

“Hosting the TUC Disabled Workers’ Conference has been a fantastic opportunity for Bournemouth International Centre to support an event that is driving meaningful change on a national scale.

“Events like this demonstrate the real value that conferences and exhibitions activity brings to Bournemouth, generating footfall to local businesses, supporting employment, and boosting the local economy while positioning the town as a leading hub for influential, purpose-driven events.”

Upcoming conferences, exhibitions, and events include Bournemouth Creed Comic Con, Royal Statistical Society, European Conference on Visual Perception, Festival of Humanism, LGA (Local Government Association) 2026, and many more.

The venue also welcomes a diverse programme of live entertainment and events, including gigs, concerts, stand-up shows, screenings, exhibitions, and more. Upcoming events include Future Cheer competitions, the South Coast Darts Showdown, plus performances from UB40, Westlife, Miriam Margolyes, and much more.
