Stepping up to run for Alzheimer’s support

Registered charity BH Live is celebrating one of its team members who is set to take on the 2026 TCS London Marathon, raising vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society.

Rob Cunningham, the charity’s director of leisure and business development, oversees BH Live Active’s 16 sports, leisure centres and attractions across Dorset and Hampshire. He has spent much of his career encouraging people to harness the power of being more active for better health and wellbeing. Many have done just that and gone on to raise vital funds for other charities too.

Now he is taking on the 26.2‑mile challenge to help support people living with dementia and their families, a charity close to his heart. With more than 900,000 people currently affected by dementia in the UK, Alzheimer’s Society provides essential support services, campaigning, and research funding aimed at improving lives and finding a cure.

Discussing the upcoming challenge, Rob shared on his fundraising page;

“Dementia is a very cruel and heartbreaking disease affecting many families, and it’s something nobody should have to face alone. Taking on this marathon is my way of supporting the incredible work being done to help those living with dementia, and the people who care for them every single day.”

BH Live is a registered charity and social enterprise dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the communities it serves. Reflection on his role within the organisation, Rob added;

“Working for a charity that inspires people to be more active, I’ve watched so many members and colleagues take on their own fitness and fundraising challenges. Seeing what they’ve achieved has been incredibly motivating, and it feels like it’s my turn now to do something amazing that can genuinely help others.

“Taking on the marathon feels like a meaningful way to live our values, and hopefully inspire others to move more, feel better and live healthier lives.”

Funds raised will help Alzheimer’s Society provide dementia advisers, support lines, research initiatives, and campaign efforts to ensure no one faces dementia alone.

The London Marathon takes place on Sunday 26 April 2026, with more than 50,000 runners expected to participate. Supporters can donate to Rob’s JustGiving fundraising page online.
