Portsmouth gymnasts celebrate international success

Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre is celebrating another exceptional season of competition, marked by two of its gymnasts achieving international success, representing England on the global stage.

Based in Hilsea, Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre is operated by BH Live, a registered charity and social enterprise, in partnership with Portsmouth City Council. The centre supports gymnasts of all ages and abilities through structured classes, competitive pathways, and community programmes.

Elite gymnast Jake Palmer, delivered a standout performance at the prestigious Future Cup International Competition. This is a renowned junior event that has welcomed teams from across the world, including Australia, Canada, Japan, and Ukraine.

Competing as part of a five‑man England squad, Jake produced consistently strong routines across all apparatus, helping the team secure an impressive fifth‑place finish. His high‑quality performances earned him the U16 all‑around bronze medal in a field of more than 35 international athletes.

Jake’s success continued into the apparatus finals, where he qualified for the high bar final. There, he delivered an exceptional routine capped with a difficult double‑twisting double‑straight dismount, executed with precision to claim the high bar title.

These results mark the culmination of an outstanding year for Jake, who has secured all‑around medals and titles at all three major national championships. Thanks to his fantastic results and performance, Jake has been selected to compete for Great Britain’s 2026 Junior Artistic Gymnastics squad.

Another rising talent from the PGC Men’s Artistic Squad, Henry, also represented England this winter at the Caledonia International Competition, contested by the home nations of the United Kingdom.

Henry contributed strongly to the team’s overall score, helping England secure the silver medal. Individually, he achieved a commendable 7th place all‑around and qualified for the Rings final, where he placed 4th following a clean and controlled routine.

On behalf of Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre, Adam Paterson, Head Coach, said;

“We are very pleased with the results our male squad has achieved this year. Their commitment is admirable, and I am excited to see how they can further their performances in the new year.”

With athletes continuing to excel at national and international level, Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre remains committed to nurturing talent from grassroots to elite pathways. The centre offers a wide range of classes and development opportunities for children, teens, and adults.

If your child would like the opportunity to excel at gymnastics, Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre identifies talent from an early age in preschool, mini and junior recreational classes. All abilities are welcome. Sessions are bookable via the BH Live Active app or at bhliveactive.org.uk.
