Leading quality scheme praises Mountbatten Leisure Centre

Mountbatten Leisure Centre, Portsmouth has passed a tough assessment by Sport England’s leading national quality scheme, Quest.

Quest is the best-known improvement programme within the leisure industry.

In order achieve Quest’s Entry level, the team at Mountbatten undertook a rigorous assessment by an independent industry expert and a mystery visit.

First impressions of the venue wowed the appraisers. Its recently refurbished foyer, redesigned gym, Terrace Café and menu, Clip ‘N Climb and soft play attractions were also praised. Additional positive comments from the mystery shopper included how friendly the team are, the venue’s accessibility, car parking and the new self-service kiosks.

The leisure centre is managed by BH Live in partnership with Portsmouth City Council.

“Mountbatten is an incredible community space; a constant hive of leisure activities and events welcoming in excess of one million visits every year,

says Rob Cunningham, BH Live’s divisional general manager.

“Taking part in Quest demonstrates our commitment to continuously improve what we do, making sure Mountbatten meets tough industry criteria and is a venue for the City and its people to be proud of.”

Councillor Steve Pitt, Portsmouth City Council’s cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, added,

“We work very closely with BH Live and have an excellent partnership focusing on continued improvement and increasing participation. Together we have invested £1.3 million into the centre to deliver major improvements and significantly enhance our City’s sport, leisure and event facilities. I congratulate the team at the Mountbatten Centre on achieving such a positive assessment.”

Quest’s operations director, Caroline Constantine, said:

“By meeting Quest’s high standards, BH Live and its team at Mountbatten have shown its commitment to providing quality facilities and service to its customers.

“The new Quest standards are more demanding and challenging for the management team and staff, and it is now much more of an achievement to succeed in Quest at any level. In these tough economic times it is more important than ever that local leisure facilities can demonstrate their value, and Quest helps them do just that.”
